Considering the developing (resuscitated) scandal concerning patient care in VA hospitals, it's instructive to remember that at least in diabetes care - an area of medicine that requires a great deal of patient communication and followup - VA facilities actually provide better care than is available to non-veterans.

Unlike non-veterans, also, veterans are at least assured coverage and access to *some* form of medical care.
