Except that taxing the end product is backwards. Eliminating the subsidy on the corn crops to begin with would naturally raise the price of pop and all other foods containing high fructose corn syrup. More importantly, it would decrease Big Ag's motivation to find more and more ways to foist cheap calories on us (for edible human and livestock fuel as well as combustible fuel), with all the attendant damage to land as well as individual human and animal health.
